D‑type Passenger

Ride in a Le Mans legend

In the mid-Fifties, the Jaguar D-type won the Le Mans 24 Hour race three times in a row. A replacement for C-type, itself a two-time Le Mans winner earlier in the decade, it featured a revolutionary monocoque chassis and aerodynamics by legendary Jaguar designer Malcolm Sayer, who once stuck sheep’s wool to a car’s body to observe its behaviour in the airflow.

To win the world’s toughest endurance race required a special machine, especially when it came to beating the likes of Ferrari and Aston Martin. The D-type, with its distinctive dorsal fin behind the driver’s head, was that machine. The fin – inspired by what Sayer learned from his wool experiment – helped the air to flow over the car and therefore increase its top speed on the terrifying Mulsanne Straight.

For an extra fix of the Jaguar Heritage Experience, why not let one of our professional driving experts do the hard work while you sit back and enjoy the show from the passenger seat?

With many years of experience between them, our team of drivers know how to get the most from these wonderful machines, and will demonstrate speed and performance that – even by today’s standards – might just surprise you.

While you might not be in control of the pedals, remember, sometimes a good co-driver is just as important as the man behind the wheel… Each passenger experience includes approx 10 minutes driving time.
