The very first E-type was a 3.8-litre, six-cylinder Series 1 produced in 1961. It was first shown at the Geneva motorshow, having famously been driven overnight, at speed, from Jaguar’s factory at Browns Lane. It took the show by storm, kick-started the Sixties and transformed people’s whole idea of what a sports car should be.
It became an icon – not just for Jaguar, but also for Great Britain – and over 70,000 were sold around the world, with famous owners including Frank Sinatra and Princess Grace of Monaco. It took several forms throughout its lifetime, including various coupes and roadsters, before culminating in the V12-powered Series 3 of 1975.
It’s this final version, along with an example of the first S1, which guests of the Heritage Experience will drive at . You’ll have 15 minutes of driving time in each model, but with the E-type still regarded as one of the most beautiful cars of all time, you might be just as happy looking at the other E-type on static display in the ‘Perfect Ten' exhibition.
